this year in gv

Last year, when our group was formed, I was satisfied with the perspective of working with people who really care about their English. However, I did not know what to expect even from myself.
Luckily, it turned out to be definitely the most beneficial year I have ever spent in GV. I am able to see that all the stuff I wrote was different. Of course it depended on my mood and the subject. The amount of effort I put was surely superior in comparison to previous years. I think it is because of the people in the group. Seeing that everyone was working motivated me. The time I used to spend on writing was also special. It was like a sacrum for me. Every piece had to be ready on Saturday. These days were extraordinary because then I was mentally ready to write and it gave me a lot of pleasure. I even remember moments of getting so deeply in the subject that I lost contact with the surrounding world when writing. This is for example how my pieces about the Antique and Caravaggio were born. I see these two as my favorite ones because I managed to express in them all I wanted.
As a conclusion I can say that my writing progressed a lot. I write with more ease and I stopped to dislike it. These are definitely benefits of this year and I am looking forward to continue that with the same people. I am sure we can do even more together.

After I’ve gone through all of my writings from this school year, I am pretty happy at the results. I remember writing every piece, and I must admit with every assigned work writing was easier and easier. No more staring at the screen trying to think up the first sentence of the intro; putting what I want I think in nice words is becoming somehow natural and closing the essay with an appropriate punchline – something I’ve always had problems with – is more pleasant to write.
As far as I am complimenting myself, I can point out my least favourite essay and my weaknesses. The work I like least is ‘Gap Year Trip’. Looking at it I have an impression the construction is – to be honest – horrible and makes the whole thing uninteresting. I’ve mentioned a great number of places and glued it together with commas. It also sounds naïve, as if author couldn’t think up a better way to tell what is necessary.
Undeniably, one of my flaws is thinking up bizarre collocations which don’t really exist. I have the tendency to build very long phrases, which make the reader forget the beginning when he is reading the end. In them I often repeat previous statements or arguments, only reformulating them, but I try to avoid that now.
To sum up, I think I’ve learnt quite a lot. I can see how the essays become more organized and clear. I see the results of constant writing especially in the ‘Marks’, where the construction is very legible and arguments are presented logically. In addition, I really enjoy reading ‘Fibonacci’ as well as piece about snow, but they are more free-lance than formal essays we usually write.
