Christmas gift for …
I like buying and giving Christmas gifts because I like giving gifts in general. First of all I like buying presents for my closets family because I know well their needs and what they like. It is harder for me to find something interesting for other members of my family who I meet from time to time at Christmas eve dinner. They are all rather well-off and live abroad that’s why it is difficult to surprise them buying something special. Shops in foreign countries can still supply a greater variety of things and in better quality than our shops. However, I try to buy gifts which in my opinion are personal and practical, rather modest than expensive. I don’t want to give luxury things as Christmas gifts, to avoid some obligations between people and not to provoke anybody to take revenge. I also like wrapping presents nicely, but I don’t take any additional effort to do it, except buying wrapping paper or bags.
I was particularly happy about the present I gave to my younger daughter last year. It was a pair of new ski boots and skis for which she had been waiting the whole year. I am always happy with presents I get from my husband because usually I choose them myself.
This time I’ve got a list of presents I can buy at Harrods. I’ve chosen some kitchenware – an ice cream and frozen yoghurt maker. It is a rather small machine, made in a nice and modern design. I think this ice cream maker is user friendly because it looks simple and its parts are easily removable for cleaning. It churns 1,5 litres of ice cream in 15 minutes. I can prepare fresh and healthy ice cream and yogurt without any preservatives. My kids love ice cream and eat a lot of it all year round. Making ice cream from ecological ingredients is important to me for their sake. I think my family could have a lot of fun preparing ice cream together.

Last week I had a chance to do shopping at Harrods, the famous department store in London. I wanted to buy a Christmas gift for a special person, my partner. From many simple and luxury products I chose a fitness-machine. It is a big machine, made of various materials like metal, rubber and plastic. It has a grey metallic lustre. I like its modern and streamlined shape. When I stand on it, it feels a little bit cold and strange. I imagine the machine is going to take off. I think I made a wonderful choice. Because this gift is expensive, big and heavy, the best wrapping for it instead wrapping paper will be a little van, which Harrods should offer me as a gift.
I’ve chosen a traditional basket with Christmas delicacies. When I first saw it I thought that there was something to eat and drink. When I read the description of the contents I found out that all things were to eat, except one box of tea. The extraordinary golden cylinder box, which looked like a box with a bottle of single malt whisky, was a packet of Christmas pudding biscuits. I was upset, but I enjoyed myself when I found out that the richly fruited Christmas cake and luxury Christmas pudding were fortified with the finest brandy. I suppose that all confectionary will taste good because the packages look luxurious.
I’m going to buy a gold plated heart set for my mother.
It is small and I like its shape very much. My present is made of gold and diamonds. It is so beautiful that when my mother wears it on her neck, she will look and feel like a princess. When I look at it I imagine that I am wearing it at a big party for celebrities. I will choose red wrapping paper with gold hearts on it to wrap my gift.
If I had a real chance to do Christmas shopping from Harrods catalogue I would choose the Mont Blanc Marlene Dietrich Fountain pen for my husband. It is a luxury black pen with platinium-plated 14-carat nib, black resin barrel inlaid with signet and mother of pearl. It has a clip set with a deep blue sapphire. When I look at that pen I imagine Marlene Dietrich writing autographs for her fans. It looks elegant!
I think it would be a great pleasure for my husband to write using that gorgeous pen, especially in dark-blue ink. I associate blue with “Blue Angel” and that little sapphire on the clip.
My husband collects fountain pens and he uses them to write letters to someone really special.
I have chosen a Christmas present for my aunt, a 55-year-old lady. It is tea. A wonderfully packed fine selection of Ceylon, Earl Grey and green teas can be found at Harrods. The green tea is of lemon flavour. Being accustomed to drinking quality tea a couple of times a day, be it after meals or in front of TV, my aunt should be satisfied with the present. I find the lemon scent perfect for long, winter afternoons. I can already imagine my aunt closing her eyes and saying: “It smells good!”, while she bends over a freshly prepared, hot cup of tea and appreciates its aroma.
