Dear Wojtek,

I think that you were right to change the place of our meetings. My office seems dark and quite formal. The new place, the kitchen, is rather simple, neutral and meant for resting, so it is much friendlier than the office. We call it the common room.

The kitchen gives me also the feeling that there is a new relationship beetween us. This relationship is not the same as between a teacher and student but more like between two partners. Of course your job is to lead the conversation, suggest new topics and give me more opportunities to improve my English skills.

    Dear Gosia,
I’m glad you liked the new space for our lessons. I decided to to give it a try and it worked. The kitchen has one big advantage over the office – it has a big window facing the south and I’m looking forward to more sunlight coming through in spring. The whole surgery is so vast that we can even move to the hall on some occasions.
What I liked about the lesson was that you confirmed my thoughts about spatial intelligence. You dentists must have it particularly well developed since you constantly predict and visualise what is hidden in extremely small spaces. In a way you are like sculptors who deal with micro-shapes.
The other topic we touched, your work, made me think about how much we have in common. You realised that with your professional experience you demand too much from people you work with. They may not live up to your expectations and your answer to this is perpetual training. I often find myself in a similar position and take the attitude of a hungry learner myself. There are great rewards in it.
    Yours
    Wojtek
