An acrostic poem is one where you choose a word or name and use each letter in the name as the beginning of a word or line that tells something about that person or topic. Here are three CHRISTMAS acrostic poems that students from tea_6_bee group have written.

Luka – Episode 2

Police takes Grace and Luka at surgery for medical examination. The findings aren’t good, the examination shows drugs in Luka’s blood. So the police take him and Grace at the police station and call their parents. When Grace’s mother and father arrive a policeman takes them out and talks with them for a while. He lets Grace go home but she has to be a witness.

After this Grace has a very bad time. She suffers from depression. She stays at home for two weeks and doesn’t talk to anyone. But one day she feels better and goes out for shopping with her best friend. She is sick but she tries to look well.

They go to a supermarket and start looking for some nice clothes. Suddenly Grace’s cell phone rings.
Grace leaves her friend and goes aside to receive it. She says ‘hello’ and she feels somebody’s hand on her mouth.
A stranger whispers to her ear ‘We know everything about you and your friend, John didn’t commit suicide.
Somebody gave him poisoned drugs. Guess who. Your friend must admit that he’s a drug dealer, he had drugs with him so it would be easy to get him involved in this. Now you come with us. We’ll explain you everything. It’s better if you help us.’

Christmas gift for …

I like buying and giving Christmas gifts because I like giving gifts in general. First of all I like buying presents for my closets family because I know well their needs and what they like. It is harder for me to find something interesting for other members of my family who I meet from time to time at Christmas eve dinner. They are all rather well-off and live abroad that’s why it is difficult to surprise them buying something special. Shops in foreign countries can still supply a greater variety of things and in better quality than our shops. However, I try to buy gifts which in my opinion are personal and practical, rather modest than expensive. I don’t want to give luxury things as Christmas gifts, to avoid some obligations between people and not to provoke anybody to take revenge. I also like wrapping presents nicely, but I don’t take any additional effort to do it, except buying wrapping paper or bags.

I was particularly happy about the present I gave to my younger daughter last year. It was a pair of new ski boots and skis for which she had been waiting the whole year. I am always happy with presents I get from my husband because usually I choose them myself.

This time I’ve got a list of presents I can buy at Harrods. I’ve chosen some kitchenware – an ice cream and frozen yoghurt maker. It is a rather small machine, made in a nice and modern design. I think this ice cream maker is user friendly because it looks simple and its parts are easily removable for cleaning. It churns 1,5 litres of ice cream in 15 minutes. I can prepare fresh and healthy ice cream and yogurt without any preservatives. My kids love ice cream and eat a lot of it all year round. Making ice cream from ecological ingredients is important to me for their sake. I think my family could have a lot of fun preparing ice cream together.

Christmas tree

The picture represents a tall tree, surrounded by bushes, with no leaves but lots of branches of different thickness. There are fifteen figures on it. The localization of the tree, time of the day or season remain unknown.

The figures are either alone or form groups. Some stay in a stable, relaxed position, others are endangered with the fall. Some stay passive, others perform an activity: climb a rope, carry another figure, or tied to a branch jump headlong down. There are no details regarding their sex, age or facial expression.

These figures in various positions, at different height, form a spatial metaphor. They may reflect, for instance, an attitude towards Christmas or associations of Christmas at particular points in time. Three colours symbolize the time axis – blue for the past, pink for present and green for future.

Me as a singing bus conductor

by on December 9, 2007

I read a short article about Kev “Duke Bassie”, London’s singing bus conductor and imagined myself as him for a while.

I suppose I like some things about my work. First of all, working as a conductor gives me a certain feeling of freedom, because every minute I’m in a different place and I can feel how the city lives. The other thing I like about my work is having a possibility to meet people with a passion, like me.
What I dislike about my work is being on duty for eight hours a day. I hate to be kind and ask people to show their tickets for all day long. It bores me a lot. I feel that only music is really important to me. If I only could I would drop my stupid job.
In my opinion I miss being  totally independent of people and my present commitments.
I try to keep myself in a good mood, even though I have to work as a conductor. That’s why I sing songs while I’m working on the bus. But when I have some spare time I try to have real fun. I go to a party, meet women, drink alcohol or even take some drugs. All these things help me express myself and write music.
Happiness to me means freedom and independence, they let me live in my own way. For instance, if I feel like going to work, I go, but if feel like composing, I just do that. Freedom means that I don’t care about food, clothes and appearance. Also I cannot have too close relationships with people, especially with my family. Having a wife and kids puts me under obligation and limits my independence.

Łukasz

They say the good die young. This sentence perfectly fits my friend’s case. His name was Łukasz. I remember the day we met. It was couple of years ago at the gym where we were playing football together. He made a very positive first impression while talking with him for the first time.
Looking at his picture I can tell that he looks young, rather tall and muscular man. Most girls that knew him define him as a handsome boy. The most specific thing about him was that he always had a smile on his face. I can say a lot about his wardrobe but mostly he was wearing clothes that were fiting him. He was some kind of a “fashion freak”. Clothes always had to look good on him and colours had to match.
Undeniably he was the most cheerful person I have ever met. Even in the most unpleasant situations he was always thinking about bright sides of them. He had a lot of respect for other people. He had never bullied anybody. I can’t even think about any negative features of his character.
For the specific sense of humor I liked this person very much. If there would be more people like him the world would a better more optimistic and more happy place to live in.

Farmer saves trapped donkey

During the recent drought in southern Sicily a local farmer finds his donkey inside the dried up well and saves the poor animal in a very tricky way.

Southern Sicily has not seen a drop of rain for the last nine weeks so the fields look like a desert and the parched earth is covered with the debris of dried plants.

“I was doing the everyday rounds of my field – says Sicilio Picolo, a local farmer – when suddenly I heard some quiet noise coming out from the well near my shed’’. To his incredulity he saw the dusted back of his donkey at the bottom of the well. The next thing he remembers he ran to the shed for some tools to get the animal out. “I thought the best idea to help the donkey would be to throw earth and stones with my shovel onto the bottom of the well’’. After half a day of shovelling and throwing stones, Sicilio raised the well’s bottom to the surface level and fred the imprisoned animal. “And in the end the poor donkey ran away, maybe it thought that I was going to kill him’’ , says the farmer wiping tears from his eyes.

Dear All,

Last Wednesday was rather easy. I had many things to do, but I also had plenty of time to do them. That’s why I didn’t hurry and I wasn’t tired when my teacher came and my English lesson started. This lesson was a very nice end of my day because of the form of the lesson. He is that special kind of teacher who always manages lessons in a different way to make them unique. This time he brought an ipod with a special story recorded.

The story began with some nice classical music. After a few seconds a calm male voice started to give some instructions. It asked me to sit comfortably, put my feet strongly on the floor and acknowledge all things which can distract me. When I executed all of these instructions the voice started to tell a story about some place which I started to imagine.

I found myself in the garden of my summer house by the lake. It was a hot sunny day, full of flowers’ smells and insects’ sounds. Suddenly, when the voice told me to pick up a stone and throw it into the water, the day changed into night. There was a full moon on the dark sky and its glare was well visible on the lake’s surface. When the stone touched the water, the ripples started to go in circles and then the stone was sinking deeper and deeper into the dark water. I was watching this image from the site but at the same time I was flying next to the stone and drowning with it. I saw this scene at a slow motion, like in a movie. It was a nice experience which relaxed me at the end of my day.

I wonder what  my next English lesson will bring.

Luka – episode 1

in stories, students

It’s Monday morning, 11 a.m., in a little town in South England. Grace is on her French class with Theodore, her favourite teacher. But today’s lesson isn’t as exciting as usually. Grace looks out of the window and notices a boy leaning against a tree. He is short and skinny, and he wears glasses. He is standing on his own, there are some other students nearby. Grace thinks the boy is a bit weird.

Meanwhile, John wakes up in his apartment. The first thing that comes to his mind is that he is short of money this month. He hasn’t sold any ‘stuff’ this month yet. So far, John has been selling drugs to his adult friends but today he decides to try the local secondary school…

The lesson finally ends. Grace quickly goes back home because this evening she has got a date with Theodore. When she goes near that tree she recognizes the same boy which she saw in the morning. She hasn’t got much time, but decides to say something to him. Luka (that’s his name) doesn’t want to talk a lot, but Grace understands that something wrong is happening with Luka. She asks if they can meet tomorrow.

In the evening Grace tells Theodore about Luka. Theodore says that Luka is from a poor and problem family. He says some more details about Luka’s life. Grace is worried about Luka and decides to help him.

The next day Luka waits in the same place where he yesterday met Grace. Grace’s late. Unfortunately, John comes. He starts to speak with Luka and gives him some drugs for free to refresh. When Grace comes Luka is stoned. He laughs all the time and says strange things. Grace understands that John gave him drugs. She goes to look for him. She doesn’t have to look very long. Round the corner there is insensible John. She can see that he also took some drugs. It looks as if he overdosed. Grace calls the police and an ambulance but when they arrive it is too late. John’s dead.

Blue – a color or memories?

by on November 25, 2007

What’s blue? Is it a color? Yes, it is a color. So what is a color? A color is a kind of a physical process  in which light beams of defined length (each color has its own light beam length) reflect from the surface of an subject (in this case blue subject). And the human eye is able to see this rebounded length of light as blue.  But the world we live in is not only the physical processes. Apart from physics there is chemistry. Chemistry is mainly about connecting and disconnecting substances and/or elements. All these reactions take place outside and inside of our body. They are tremendously vital for living organisms. The human body has a special place where unique connections and disconnections of various chemicals (called neurochemicals) may result in a feeling of joy, cheerfulness even ecstasy or sadness, dejection or fear. These chemical processes give to a human being pleasant or unpleasant feelings. And the blue color may trigger our brain with neurochemicals to bring these feeling. In a great number of people blue color provokes good feelings, mostly coded as happiness and cheerfulness of beautiful days in theirs life. These days are mainly the summer time, when blue fills the sky and water. The blue sky and water are main surroundings of our leisure time, during which people have fun, enjoying their hobbies such as swimming, diving, yachting, windsurfing, cycling or playing different ball games etc. Doing what we like to do gives us pleasure and this pleasure is coded in human brain with positive chemicals reactions. To make all this easier the human brain makes shortcuts connecting the blue color with positives neurochemicals – so blue is responsible for positive feelings.

Yes, it’s good to see the blue color knowing what secrets it carries.
