I promised you some data concerning work or unemployment in our region and here it is :)

Go to the website above and look for the data concerning “The number of the unemployed and the unemployment rate in Podlaskie Voivodship in the years 1999-2006″ (Liczba bezrobotnych i stopa bezrobocia w woj. podlaskim w latach 1999-2006).
Write a short generalisation of the data included in the table (with details/ examples). If you like, add also a short separate comment – this time describing your own first impressions. The percentage of unemployment in Podlaskie Voivodship in the years 1999-2006 is oscillating (from 8,6% in the south part to 23,1% in the north of the region). The percentage of north administrative districts’ unemployment is quite high. Three middle administrative districts of Podlaskie (Sokolka, Monki and Bialystok) are exactly at the same level as the average of unemloypment in all administrative districts of this region (13,1%). In south part, the unemployment is the lowest – the average is about 9,25%.
Although we normally do not interfere with entries, this one deserved a slight modification.
The English, and effective, translation of Województwo Podlaskie is Podlaskie Voivodship rather than The Voivodship of Podlassia. All new Polish voivodships tend to keep their original, Polish adjective form when used in English.
The rate of unemploymet in Podlaskie Voivodship has been decreasing stadily over the past few years, falling from almost 18% in 2001 to around 13 this year. The monthly analisis shows a annual downtrend around may ( This is probably due to seasonal work)

Is 13% a high value in terms of rates of unemployment? it is high but the thing that we should focus on is is the overall decrease of this indicator that we have been a witness to over that past few years. Theoretcally is shows a very good perspective for the future.
Sadly the reason for such a trend is not the improvement in the domestic labor market but the vast emigration of the yought and often educated
There is a steady decline in the rate of unemployment in Podlaskie Voivodship throughout the last 5 years. It has fallen from almost 18% in 2001 to 13,1% in november this year. However it has slightly risen in years 2001-2003, from january 2003 it started decreasing.
I agree with Bartek. Such big reduction should be really satisfactory, but concerning the reasons it’s rather sad.
The truth is that there is no such word as “voivodship” in English. There isn’t any English dictionary (that I know of) that has such an entry.
Of course it’s perfectly OK to use it among Poles as one’ll be understood without any trouble…
Otherwise I would strongly advise against it. Use words such as “region”, “district” or “state” instead.
Tomek, I’m afraid I can’t agree with you. Of course, “voivodship” is a Polish word, as there are no voivodships in English-speaking countries. There are lots of such Polish culture-specific items that do not occur in English, which does not mean we have to replace them with the already exisiting English lexical items. That could lead to a great limitation of the message or, to put it in other words, Venuti’s domesticated translation. For example, if you rendered “województwo” as “district”, it could result in some confusion on the part of your English speaking interlocutor, as s/he would probably associate the term with the realia it refers to in English. Thus, the translation could become in fact a mistranslation. You would not express what you wanted to.
As far as this particular case is concerned, I used the term “the Voivodship of Podlassia”, because it’s the version on the website of our Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, the common translation used in official documents of our city is Podlaskie Voivodship, just as Nassim corrected it. I agree it is a better solution here.
I think it’s enough about translation :)

The number of the unemployed in Podlaskie Voivodship in years 1999-2006 was very high, but decreased from 70644 in Jan. 1999 to 60254 in Oct. 2006.
The unemployment rate was the lowest in 2006 from the latest 7 years. It decreased from 18% in 2002-2003 when it was on the highest level to 15,9% in Jan 2006. Throught the last 10 months it has declined the next 2,4% and amounted 13% in Oct. 2006.
The number of the unemployed in Podlaskie Voivodship has decreased over last 7 years, falling from 67136 in October 1999 to 60254 in October 2006.
